Basant Restaurant opened its doors in December of 2020, with a simple mission: to share the depth, variety, and vibrancy of Indian food in a relaxed, upscale setting.

Located at 1939 W. Byron Street (just off of Lincoln Avenue, on Byron) in the North Center neighborhood, the restaurant takes its name from a traditional festival in India that celebrates the first day of Spring as well as new beginnings. 

Basant restaurant carries on the theme of new beginnings by bringing together tradition and innovation through its food.

Catering Menu

Basant's menu is rooted in Indian food culture while also incorporating innovative dishes.  The restaurant's unique culinary point of view is deeply personal: Chef/Owner Jeet Singh melds classic recipes with imaginative variants and nostalgic specialties.

Private Dining

Located in the heart of North Center, on the tree-lined Byron Street, just off of Lincoln Avenue, Basant restaurant offers a unique event setting suitable for any occasion, whether the focus is on family, friends, or business relationships. The bar is one of the focal points of the main dining room, which boasts clean lines, tasteful decor, and a color scheme of dark, faceted blue, cool clay, and emerald green. The dining room can comfortably seat 70-80 persons for a sit-down meal or meeting, or up to 95-100, for a standing function.  

Team Basant can work with guests on custom room layouts to accommodate seated dinners, passed appetizers for mixers, fundraisers, or standing functions, and everything in between.  Our offerings are as versatile as your needs: stationed buffet; passed or stationed appetizers; family style or plated meal service.  Audio / Visual capabilities are also available upon request.

Neighborhood & Outdoor Patio

You can wander just about anywhere in North Center to find a setting for every mood: from upscale eateries to low-key hangouts, from casual venues with nightly live shows to bustling gastropubs and top-notch cuisine.  Basant is located steps from Chicago icons such as Martyrs’ and the Globe Pub.  So whether you’re looking for pre-concert drinks or post-football meals, add Basant restaurant to your to-do list!

For intimate gatherings, such as weddings or baby showers, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, and other milestones, we offer semi-private seatings in the main dining room or, weather permitting, our outdoor, sidewalk patio.  With a bright blue canopy, oak and black wood structure, an abundance of blooming flowers, and twinkling lights, our outdoor patio is the perfect setting for a relaxed evening with your family, friends, and loved ones.  Our patio comfortably seats up to 25 guests and is generally open from May through October (or later in the year, depending on the weather).  

Basant’s street-level, accessible space is surrounded by convenient street parking, including metered parking on Lincoln Avenue, and Damen Avenue, as well as a metered parking lot steps away from Basant.  (The metered parking lot is located on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and W Berenice Avenue.)
